Google claims to be all about logic and intuitive, but every system must have exceptions. It’s far from a perfect tool but better than the others tool that don’t pay for directly so worthwhile to invest some time to learn to use it better. Pays off.

In reply to Don. Thanks for the comment Don. You are right lots of networks to join online. Focus on where people in your area of expertise are. ResearchGate is strong in the sciences and engineering. Academia.edu is a more general network of academics, like a Facebook for academics. While others like Mendeley are more limited and might not be worthwhile at all. Don't underestimate LinkedIn or Facebook groups as well. If you goal is attention, take a look at what we do here at Expertise Finder.
